David Green is Vice President of Legal for GitHub and oversees legal teams supporting GitHub’s product counseling, privacy, security, and online safety efforts. Dave helps GitHub’s talented legal professionals collaborate and navigate a range of complex legal matters impacting GitHub’s software and online services, and its artificial intelligence applications.

Previously as Assistant General Counsel, Dave led Microsoft’s Open Innovation counseling team that defined and executed Microsoft’s global copyright, trade secret, data, and related IP and AI legal strategies. For more than decade, Dave provided complex IP counseling impacting hardware, software, and cloud services for Microsoft, LinkedIn, and GitHub. Dave’s team also shaped and executed Microsoft’s external IP policy through various collaborations, global legislative initiatives, and amicus participation (including the Oracle v. Google and Georgia. v. PublicResource.Org Supreme Court cases).

Prior to Microsoft, Dave served as AGC/VP for Bill Gates’s media licensing company, Corbis, and began his legal career as Assistant Attorney General advising the University of Washington on complex IP and licensing matters, tech transfer, and general business issues. Dave has presented extensively to international audiences on IP, Data, and Technology issues, published articles on AI and Data, and is a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association.
