George has almost 30 years of experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors. George is currently Associate Vice Chancellor at U.Mass. Chan Medical School, where he leads the IP, Contracting and Finance functions of the Innovation and Business Development group and assists with business development initiatives. Prior to joining U.Mass Chan, George was most recently V.P. of Legal Affairs and Intellectual Property at Decibel Therapeutics, a hearing focused biotechnology company in Boston where he headed up the legal function including intellectual property strategy, contracting and compliance. George has also served as Chief IP Counsel for a publicly traded genomics company and was Division Counsel in the Business Legal Group of a major U.S. pharmaceutical company where he supervised a team of attorneys and paralegals in support of non-clinical contracting for global R&D organization, including biologics, small molecules and devices.
During his career, George developed extensive patent portfolios for clients in the small molecule, protein therapeutic, gene therapy and antibody spaces. He has litigated cases regarding copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and patents. In addition, George has negotiated numerous patent licenses, Collaboration Agreements and Strategic Alliances in the biopharmaceutical space. George also has significant experience in compliance and regulatory matters including the support of biopharmaceutical and medical devices clinical trials.
George is a Certified Licensing Professional, a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional and is a published author in the areas of IP due diligence and licensing.
